L.A based Teebs, otherwise known as Mtendere Mandowa is a standout beat-maker who's been releasing underground gems for years, despite having worked with a number of sought after artists such as Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, and Shlohmo. His latest collaborative album Anicca is his first release since his debut album Ardour which came out in 2010 - and it's definitely worth the wait. Countless tracks on the album stand-out, with collaborators Sudan Archives, Panda Bear and Anna Wise, to name a few. We're about to take a closer look at 'Daughter Callin', featuring Pink Siifu - a savoured track, reserved for later on in the album. A shuffling beat opens the tune, along with soothing synth pads that waver like calm water. Pink Siifu's rhymes are spoken with a respectable minimality and ease on opening line "sunset, daughter calling, new breath, sun fallin'". Later on, a female vocalist accompanies on line "pray for me, pray for you", which is tinted with a spiritual melancholia. The song sweetly crescendos to a repeated harmonised vocal melody from the female vocalist, passionately singing "Lord knows that I deserve to feel peace", which sets ambivalent tone, of uplifting and weighty sentiments. -Ellie Rose-Davies
